Patient & Family Education
We often hear the frightening statistics about Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other dementias. Over 5 million Americans have AD today, and an estimated 13-16 million will have the disease by 2050. If we consider people with milder forms of memory and cognitive processing problems, the numbers are even larger.
Our goal is to provide some reassurance and guidance to patients and their families who are concerned about memory impairment. Information about how to protect our brains from memory decline, and better manage the cognitive problems we might already be experiencing is critically important. Information and support are keys to success, and they can help maximize independence and quality of life.
The BCAT website provides information and support. For professionals who evaluate and treat memory and other cognitive problems, the website supports the BCAT Test System, a powerful set of diagnostic tools; the latest research on memory and aging issues; continuing educational opportunities; and brain fitness exercises that can be used while working directly with patients.
For patients, their families, and facility providers, the BCAT website provides specific information and guidance about memory and cognitive problems. We also provide a science-based brain fitness program designed to improve and protect memory and other cognitive skills.
